Flower Friday

As an indicator that fall is coming soon, Nevada goldenrod (Solidago spectabilis) blooms tiny golden yellow flowers at the end of summer. This plant, growing up to six feet tall, can be found on moist sites like Red Spring, Pine Creek, La Madre Spring, and others and features small, willow-like green leaves. Grazing animals looking to munch on Nevada goldenrod avoid the plant when it starts to bloom as the chemicals change within the stems and leaves causing it to become poisonous.
