Flower Friday

During the majority of the year, blackbrush (Coleogyne ramosissima) looks like a dull shrub with its gray branches and gray-green leaves. However, come spring you’ll see many small button-sized yellow flowers dotted throughout these shrubs that add lovely color to the desert landscape. Blackbrush grows on gravelly hills and reach heights typically below three feet tall. These thorny plants are capable of living over a hundred years and grow very slowly. At Red Rock Canyon, look for blackbrush near the High Point Overlook, Ice Box Canyon, Pine Creek Canyon, Oak Creek Canyon, First Creek Canyon, and other spots.
