Seldom seen at Red Rock Canyon, bobcats (Lynx rufus) quietly patrol desert canyons and rocky outcrops looking for rabbits, rodents, birds, fallen bats, and reptiles to eat. These animals are mostly nocturnal, however you can sometimes catch them wondering around during sunrise or sunset. Bobcats feature a red-brown fur with black dots & streaks and a white chest. These animals grow anywhere from two to four feet in length and feature a short tail. Bobcats are mostly solitary creatures and defend home ranges that range from 1 to 120 square miles. Kittens are born in the spring, raised by their mother, and become ready to survive on their own by wintertime.
