Event Details

Hike with Tom on a pleasant ~3.5 mile trail that runs among the low ridges, washes, canyons, and red sandstone boulders along the base of the brilliantly red Calico Hills. The trail generally traverses open country with interesting rocks, fossils, birds, rock art, contrasting vegetation types, and grand scenery all around.

Make sure that you bring at least 1 liter of water per person on this hike. This hike will take about 3.5 hours and is rated intermediate. The hike will start and end at the trailhead at the Calico 1 Parking Lot, the first parking lot along the Scenic Drive.

Interpretive programs at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area are a free public service. Advance registration at is required to attend this program. Additionally, a Red Rock Canyon Scenic Drive Timed Entry reservation (available at or by calling 1-877-444-6777) is required.

When visiting Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, it is important to dress accordingly for the weather. It is recommended to wear sunscreen, appropriate footwear, bring a hat, sunglasses, and plenty of water.
