Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area
Our gourd artist, Kathie Clinesmith, is a retired high school librarian who has lived in the Las Vegas area for over 40 years. She has always loved crafts and the outdoors and has hiked and horseback ridden over much of Clark County. “One of my first rides was into “Hidden Valley” (now Sloan Canyon NCR) and from that point on, I’ve been hooked on petroglyphs. I grew gourds one year, and when my husband threatened to throw them out because they were stored all over “his” garage, I started making them into things decorated with petroglyphs from my pictures. I’ve been crafting gourds ever since.” Kathie is a member of the Nevada and American Gourd Society and the Southern Nevada Rock Art Association. Swing by the Visitor Center anytime from 10AM to 3PM to meet Kathie.
