Look for the large sprawling green shrubs (up to six feet tall) of Apache plume (Fallugia paradoxa) along the side of the Scenic Drive. These shrubs will sport small white flowers during the spring and fall that attract many animals. When pollinated, you will see bunches of pink-to-white feathery styles, a few inches in length, attached to a small fruit. The wind will help disperse these fruits across the landscape. Apache plume inhabits rocky slopes and commonly grows next to cliffrose shrubs (Purshia stansburiana) within Red Rock Canyon.
