Desert globemallow, Sphaeralcea ambigua, is one of our favorite and most abundant flowers in the Mojave Desert. You can identify the globemallow by orange petals that make quite a splash of color throughout spring and summer. This shrub can be found along roadsides and in gravelly areas. The leaves are covered with irritating hairs though, so watch out for rubbing your eyes after touching this plant! Desert tortoises love to munch on the desert globemallow flowers.
