Firecracker penstemon (Penstemon eatonii) displays vibrant red tubular flowers along a stem that can extend up to two feet tall. This plant can often be found in canyons and along rocky terrain. You may be able to spot some still in bloom in Red Rock Canyon’s higher elevations along the Rainbow Wilderness Area and La Madre Wilderness Areas. Hummingbirds use their long beaks to pollinate firecracker penstemon while reaching for nectar.
