During the spring and occasionally in the fall, Mexican bladdersage (Salazaria mexicana) produces small white to purple lipped flowers that decorate the desert floor. Pollinated flowers will develop a small rose to white colored fruit that resembles a paperbag (hence the other common name: paperbag bush). Wind blows these inflated fruits around to help disperse tiny seeds inside the fruit. The branches and stems have a grey to green color and have small leaves; this shrub can grow up to three feet tall. Look for Mexican bladdersage along rocky terrain, gravelly slopes, and washes.
