In mid to late spring, you can spot small white flower clusters of yerba santa (Eriodictyon angustifolium) in bloom on top of the plant. These shrubs have narrow, long, and glossy evergreen leaves and normally grow to be one to five feet tall.  Spanish explorers gave this shrub the common name of “yerba santa,” meaning “holy herb” in Spanish. The leaves of yerba santa were boiled in a tea used as medicine to treat cold and allergy symptoms. You can find this plant around Willow Springs, Pine Creek Canyon, Oak Creek Canyon, and First Creek Canyon.
