M: Mule deer

Mule deer (Odocoileus hemionus) live at higher elevations during the summer in Red Rock Canyon and move to lower elevations in the winter. Mulies, as they are called, especially prefer rocky hillsides and munch on new plant growth & scrub oak acorns. They like to look for food in the early morning and in the evening, choosing to rest & hide during the middle of the day. Mule deer have their fawns in the summer and can live over ten years in the wild. You can occasionally spot these mammals near Spring Mountain Ranch, Oak Creek, Pine Creek, and Willow Springs.
